Counsellors at Huron Heights are student advocates who are available to assist in the following areas:
- helping students design personalized, realistic education plans to reach their goals
Career Information and Planning
- providing information about potential destinations (apprenticeship, college, university and the workplace)
Personal Social Counselling
- assisting with issues that are affecting performance in class
- the student may be referred to an appropriate community agency to better assist with the particular issue(s)
Course Change Requests
Course changes will be considered only during the first two weeks of a semester. Students should book an appointment to discuss course change requests with their guidance counsellor. A course change request form must be completed and all textbooks returned before a change is official. Students are required to attend all originally scheduled classes until they receive a new timetable.
Students must complete 40 hours of community involvement activities in order to earn their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Information manuals and tracking forms are available in the guidance office. The guidance office will document these hours.
Our student success teachers will work with other staff members to support and facilitate initiatives that ensure all students have the appropriate opportunities for success.
A binder is located in the guidance office with all volunteer experiences available to students at Huron Heights. Announcements are also made when new opportunities arise. Student Volunteer Activity tracking sheets can also be found in guidance, along with a booklet outlining some important information.

Public Health Nurse
Vicki Kuula-Ross from the Region of Waterloo Public Health will be in the school throughout the year on Tuesday mornings. Students can make confidential appointments with her in the guidance office.
