Thank you to the many school communities who participated in the year-long Southwest Kitchener Secondary Boundary Study by getting engaged, offering feedback and attending consultation meetings. Your feedback helped shape the discourse of the nine working group meetings and the many options that were developed and reviewed. The final recommendation is not a perfect solution for all families and we understand that. In anticipation of a final decision from the Board of Trustees, a Transition Committee has been established to identify opportunities to make changes easier and ensure student success.
Planning staff will be presenting the recommendations at the Committee of the Whole Meeting on Monday, November 18, 2019. You can review the final report on the Southwest Kitchener Secondary Boundary Study webpage or in the Agenda Package.
The final report and recommendations have been shared previously at the September 18, 2019 Public Consultation Meeting and through an interactive map online.
Key points –
- Proposing a phased-in implementation beginning with Grade 9 students in September 2020 (current Grade 8 class), meaning no change for students currently in secondary school
- If a boundary change is approved, current Grade 7 and Grade 8 families in the affected areas will receive a letter confirming their secondary school assignment
- Transportation eligibility has been recommended to remain for students in Grade 10-12 from 2020 to 2023
Committee of the Whole meetings are open to the public. Learn more about attending and speaking at Board meetings here – www.wrdsb.ca/trustees.
