Wednesday, November 2 is Take Our Kids to Work 2022: You Belong Here! The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is excited to once again support this initiative by encouraging grade 9 students to participate.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to see if their employer is taking part in Take Our Kids to Work Day (TOKTW). If so, parents and caregivers are invited to bring their child into work with them for the day. Youth can take part in planned activities and events.
Benefits of TOKTW
- Students can gain real-world experience in the workplace and learn throughout the day.
- Students have the opportunity to explore a particular sector or employment path, prompting early career planning.
- This event starts a dialogue between parent/caregiver and child about possible career choices and expectations.
- Parents/caregivers enjoy connecting with their child at their workplace, while also learning about their child’s career hopes and goals.
- Employers are able to relay what skills, education and other assets may be required in the workplace.
TOKTW is organized by the Students Commission of Canada. This initiative is transitioning away from its former sponsor, the Learning Partnership. A resource guide for families planning to participate can be found here. Please note there will be no virtual sessions or meetings available. If you have any questions, including if your child’s secondary school is participating, contact info@studentscommission.ca.
