STSWR is sponsoring a Walk for the Earth to coincide with Earth Day this year and students could win a prize pack that includes a personalized Yeti water bottle and stickers for the whole class.
Please consider adding this important encouragement activity to your Earth Day itinerary.
We want to help make your Walk for the Earth a success with resources you can find at https://www.stswr.ca/walkzone/
You can also look for our social media posts, and repost from there. Please tag us in any posts or photos related to the big day (handles are linked here
) as it’s our dream that one day all students will be able to walk, or wheel, for part or all of their school journey.
Students are encouraged to take climate action into their own power by walking or wheeling to school to cut down on emissions and traffic near the school. When they register their steps at https://bit.ly/4idJVCr, they will have a chance to win an Earth Day prize package that includes a personalized Yeti water bottle.
Many people drive less than 1 kilometre to school: an average person can walk 1 kilometre in 10 minutes and can cycle 1 kilometres in under 5 minutes. Avoiding driving just 15 kilometres every week eliminates about 213 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions a year.
Active transportation has so many benefits to children even beyond the environment, including mental focus & physical health, safer streets near the school, and community connection. We hope you’ll consider participating in Walk for the Earth on April 22 this year.
