This message concerns HHSS students who are required to complete the OSSLT (Literacy Test) this school year. Please find the group that pertains to you and read carefully:

GROUP 1

HHSS Students (grade 10, 11, non-graduating 12’s) enrolled in the Remote Learning Program (RLP)

  • Students enrolled in the Secondary Remote Learning Program (SRLP) will not be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) this year. It is the Ministry of Education’s expectation that students who are writing the OSSLT must do so in-person; therefore, students in SRLP will be offered other opportunities to fulfill the literacy graduation requirement.
    • Grade 11 and non-graduating Grade 12 students in SRLP will either take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4OI) or participate in the adjudication process.
    • Remote learning Grade 10 students will be deferred for this year and given opportunities to fulfill this requirement next year.

GROUP 2

HHSS Students (grade 11, non-graduating gr12’s currently in gr11 classes) enrolled in In-Person Learning at HHSS or a Congregated Program at another site.

  • The 2021/22 OSSLT will be completed online for those eligible to write it.
  • The test will be written in class and is broken into 2 sessions with a short break in between.
  • Each “session” will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
  • All Lit Test activities will take place in PERIOD C in a regularly scheduled day.
  • There is no modified schedule for Lit Test days. All students are expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes.

The following dates relate to all group 2 students at HHSS:

  • Nov 10: Practice Test (all period C, grade 11 classes will write).
  • Nov 23-25: Literacy Test dates (period C, grade 11 classes divided over 3 days).

GROUP 3

HHSS Students currently in grade 10 enrolled in In-Person Learning at HHSS or a Congregated Program at another site.

  • All Grade 10 students enrolled in In-Person Learning will complete the OSSLT at HHSS in March, 2022.

Additional Information for parents and students

Parents and students interested in learning more about the OSSLT are invited to visit the EQAO website.

Here you will also find a practice test that students can take as many times as they wish. This will be the same practice test delivered by period C Teachers to all GROUP 2 students on Nov 10.
